Kellerhals Carrard Introduces AI Act Self-Assessment Tool

Kellerhals Carrard launches a new self-assessment tool aimed at assisting businesses in navigating the complexities of the European Union's AI Act. The web-based tool addresses critical questions surrounding the classification of AI systems, the applicability of the regulation, and the ensuing obligations.

Key features of the tool include:

1. Assessing Applicability and Roles

Businesses can determine if they fall within the scope of the AI Act. This assessment considers various factors such as the different roles defined in the AI Act (provider, deployer, importer, distributor, manufacturer) and the nature of the AI application.

2. Determining AI Classification

The tool assists businesses in evaluating whether their AI applications meet the criteria to be classified as "Artificial Intelligence Systems (AIS)" under the EU's regulatory framework and, if so, whether it is considered a "High-Risk AI System (HRAIS)". This classification dictates the applicability and the extent of compliance requirements under the AI Act.

3. Identifying Obligations

For businesses within the scope of the AI Act, we will outline the specific obligations imposed by the Act. This will include compliance requirements related to transparency, accountability, data governance, and risk management.

AI Act Self-Assessment Tool (AIA-SAT)

The self-assessment tool is currently in beta version and is based on the legal material available as of March 2024. It is subject to ongoing refinement and expansion based on evolving legal frameworks and user feedback. While the tool provides initial insights, it is not a substitute for professional legal advice. Users are encouraged to seek expert guidance for comprehensive compliance strategies. Notably, the tool is free to use.

Feedback on the functionality and effectiveness of the tool is highly encouraged as part of its continuous improvement process.
