Thierry Burkart

Thierry Burkart grew up in Obersiggenthal in the Canton of Aargau. After graduating from Gymnasium Immensee (a baccalaureate school in the Canton of Schwyz), he studied law in St.Gallen and Lausanne and in 2010 was admitted to the bar of the Canton of Aargau. In 2012, he also completed a postgraduate degree with a Master of Law (LL.M.) in company law and foundation law. His legal focus is on company and foundation law as well as general civil law. He serves on various boards of directors of national and international companies operating in the fields of construction, real estate and IT. Burkart has been the central president of the Swiss Road Transport Association (ASTAG ) since 2020. He is also the President of Allianz Sicherheit Schweiz, a company founded in 2021. Where his military credentials are concerned, he is ranked as a captain under the command of the Armed Forces Attorney General.

Thierry Burkart was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau in 2001, which he chaired in 2014 and of which he was a member until 2015. From 2010 to 2013, he was President of the FDP.die Liberalen Aargau. In the 2015 federal elections, Burkart was elected to the National Council, followed four years later by his election to the Council of States. He is Vice-Chairman of the Committee for the Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy (UREK) and a member of the Committee for Economic Affairs and Taxation (WAK) and the Committee for Transport and Telecommunications (KVF). He also represents Switzerland in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation (OSCE). His political priorities are transport policy, economic policy and security policy. In October 2021, the delegates of the FDP Switzerland elected Burkart as their president.
